Burnum was trailing closely behind the Enemy, who was pacing the floors of the castle, hidden by the tall, dark mountains in the northern area of the Emerald Territory. He stopped abruptly and turned to look at his servant. The Enemy’s black, sneering eyes burned Burnum’s and he had to look away.
“The king of Unisia has fallen ill with this thing they call ‘The Plague of Del’,” he said, malice practically seeping through his voice. “He will not be able to stop me, for he could die at any moment.”
The Enemy walked to the balcony that hung over a deep pit. Inside the pitch black hole was a set of red, glaring eyes. The eyes blinked and a rush of black fire erupted from the pit.
Burnum watched in horror. The Enemy smiled, his eyes twinkling. “This is a fine plan…A fine one indeed.”He walked back inside towards the black, round table in the middle of the room. Sitting on the table was an amulet; it had a silver dragon charm dangling from the silver chain. The dragon’s tail was wrapped around a black stone.
“This dragon shall be the most powerful of them all,” he said in almost a whisper.
Burnum looked over the Enemy’s shoulder at the amulet lying on the table. “What shall be done Master?” he asked, terror clearly shown in his voice.
The Enemy turned and looked at him. “It is none of your business as of now. You will soon know. Now go to the tower and prepare my dinner!”
Burnum lowered his head in shame and continued to the staircase. He climbed to the top and quickly ran to the bird tower instead of the Enemy’s bedchamber.
He took a piece of parchment and a stub of pencil from his pocket and quickly jotted down a note. He attached it to the leg of a black raven. “Take this to Del,” he whispered. “Make haste.”
The bird took off to the skies. Burnum left the bird tower and went to the Enemy’s bedchamber without a word.
